Armistice Commemoration 2018

Friday 9th November at the Cenotaph garden.  School children from the three local Primary Schools and the St Thomas Wharton Academy, supported by Father Edmonds will lead the Armistice commemorations which will include the reading of poems, singing war songs and the laying of wreaths.  Captain Dennis Turner will also be in attendance to mark the commemoration of the centenary of the end of World War 1. All are welcome to attend and support the commemorations. Please arrive for 10.45am.

 

Friday 10th November, 2017 10.45am at the Cenotaph garden, Edlington Lane.  This years Armistice commemoration to the Fallen was lead by the Edlington Primary Schools and St Thomas Wharton Academy pupils and supported by Father Stephen Edmonds. They joined Members of the Town Council to pay respects to all those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice. As part of the commemoration, pupils sang war songs including “White cliffs of Dover” and We’ll meet again”. The weather was bright and sunny and the Town Council would like to place on record its appreciation to Father Stephen Edmonds in particular and pupils from Victoria Primary, Hilltop Primary, St Mary’s Primary and St Thomas Wharton Academy and their teachers for all their efforts in making this event such a success.

To mark this year’s Armistice Day commemorations, School children from Edlington Hill Top Primary, Victoria Primary, St Mary’s Primary and Sir Thomas Wharton Community College attended  the Town Council’s Wreath Laying Service at the Cenotaph on Edlington Lane. Pupils paid their respects to the fallen and a number of poems were read.

The Town Council would like to thank the Schools for their participation together with the excellent turnout from local residents which made the day a memorable occasion.
